Coronavirus: New cases shut ENTIRE Sheffield school down until next month

A Sheffield primary school has closed to all pupils after two staff members tested positive for coronavirus.

In an email seen by The Star, parents and guardians were informed that Thurgoland C of E Primary School will remain closed until November 3 after staff contact with the confirmed cases resulted in a ‘significant number’ of absences.

The email adds: “We always aim to prioritise health, safety and wellbeing of our pupils and families.

"We have therefore taken the decision, as school leaders and governers, to close the school building with immediate effect.

"This means that the children will remain at home tomorrow and will not return until after half-term, on Tuesday 3rd November.”

School leaders said the families of children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed cases had already been informed.

They added that the Halfiax Road school would continue to teach pupils via an online learning platform and undergo a deep clean during the closure.
