Coronavirus: Doncaster food firm Toppings Pies starts deliveries during COVID-19 crisis
An award winning Doncaster food firm has started delivering pies to the elderly and vulnerable during the coronavirus crisis.
The Topping Pie Company is delivering to homes within a 20 mile radius of Doncaster – and has already been swamped with orders.
Announcing the move on Facebook, a spokesman for the family firm, said: “Given the developing situation around coronavirus in the UK, we as a small family business are continually reviewing advice based on the latest guidance from the World Health Organisation, Public Health England and other authorities and will continue to do so.
“At the moment we are running our business as usual and will continue to do so until informed otherwise.
“However, we understand the majority of our customer base fall into the 'high risk' category, which have been told to self isolate.
“In order to put our customers first we have decided to offer the service of free delivery, this applies to our hot pies, pork pies, quiches, cooked meats, sausages and bacon.
“The delivery will be a minimum spend of £25 and will be delivered by our very own Matthew Topping.
“Deliveries will be contactless, no cash will be exchanged and we can leave the delivery at your door step with a knock to let you know.”
All payments are to be taken over the phone with a debit/credit card when the order is placed.
Any questions or to place an order please message the page or call 01302 738333.
Please note if you are out of the 20 mile radius of Doncaster please visit www.toppingspies.co.uk to place an order.
The firm is also making some unbaked frozen products available to buy directly from its offices on Chappel Drive.
A spokesman said: “This lessens any social contact as we are a small office in a quiet industrial estate and makes the products more sustainable as they are unbaked and frozen increasing shelf life.”
The firm's roots stem from 1961 when Bill Topping opened a butcher’s shop before passing the baton to son Roger.
