Coronavirus death toll rises in Sheffield as UK records lowest jump since pre-lockdown

Two more people have died with coronavirus at hospital in Sheffield, taking the city’s death toll to 277.

In England, another 59 COVID-19 hospital deaths were confirmed today, Monday, June 7, taking the total to 27,490.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, 178 people have now died in Rotherham, 129 have now died in Barnsley and 192 have now died in Doncaster.

The latest figures from NHS England are for confirmed deaths at hospitals in the 24 hours up to 5pm on Sunday, June 7. They do not include deaths at care homes or elsewhere in the community.

Across all settings, 40,597 people are known to have died in the UK after testing positive for COVID-19.

To date, 286,194 people have tested positive for the disease in the UK, including 2,569 in Sheffield, 998 in Barnsley, 879 in Doncaster and 1,006 in Rotherham.
