Coronavirus death toll rises again in Sheffield, as 146 more die in England

Two more people have died with coronavirus at hospital in Sheffield, taking the city’s death toll to 269.

Across England, another 146 COVID-19 hospital deaths were confirmed today, Saturday, May 30, taking the total to 26,529.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, one new hospital death was recorded in Doncaster, where 180 people have died; there was one more death in Rotherham, taking the total there to 159; and one more person died in Barnsley, where there have now been 120 fatalities.

The latest figures from NHS England are for confirmed deaths at hospitals in the 24 hours up to 5pm on Friday, May 29. They do not include deaths at care homes or elsewhere in the community.

Across all settings, 38,161 people are known to have died in the UK after testing positive for COVID-19.

To date, 269,127 people have tested positive for the disease, including 2,484 in Sheffield, 878 in Barnsley, 695 in Doncaster and 862 in Rotherham.
