The message came after the manager of Crystal Peaks shopping centre, Lee Greenwood, spoke about its response to the pandemic, following the Government’s latest advice for people to step up social distancing.

He said the centre was continuing to operate largely as usual but the opening times of stores may vary from normal and from the centre’s own hours, meaning customers should check with individual stores before making a special trip.

“We take great pride in our standards of hygiene at all times and can assure visitors that those standards are not only being met but exceeded throughout this period, with all public areas, including toilet facilities, being cleaned and monitored on an even more regular basis than normal,” he added.

“We would advise our visitors too to be aware of the part they have to play by washing their hands regularly and, like all Crystal Peaks staff, following the current Public Health England and NHS guidelines on coronavirus infection control.”

He also echoed advice from supermarkets asking people to buy only what they need and to help elderly or vulnerable friends, family or neighbours with shopping where appropriate.
