Coronavirus: confirmed cases in Sheffield rise to 387

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Sheffield has risen to 387, with the total across South Yorkshire now at 561.

The latest figure was provided by Public Health England (PHE) as part of their daily update for each area.

Sheffield’s current confirmed total is behind only Birmingham and Hampshire in England by upper tier local authority area. Data for London, which has the highest number of confirmed cases overall, is calculated by each borough.

The number of confirmed cases in Sheffield rose by 26 – seven per cent – from Saturday to Sunday.

The Director of Public Health in the city has explained why the it has more confirmed cases of coronavirus than other areas of a similar size.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, there are now 44 confirmed cases in Doncaster, 70 in Barnsley and 60 in Rotherham.

As of 9am on Sunday (29 March), 19,522 people in the UK have tested positive for coronavirus.
