Coronavirus cases in South Yorkshire soar by 97 in one day- here's the location of every confirmed case

The South Yorkshire coronavirus death toll is close to surpassing 400 with 97 more cases confirmed on Saturday.

The latest figures show that Sheffield has 1,901 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 179 hospital patients have died – an increase of 45 within a 24 hour reporting period.

Doncaster has 374 confirmed cases of Covid-19. 22 deaths have been reported in the past day, bringing the town’s total death toll to to 74.

Rotherham has reported 589 cases of the virus and has seen 82 deaths- an increase of 16.

While Barnsley has 544 cases and has seen its death toll rise to 61- an increase of 14.

This brings the total confirmed case rate within the county to 3,406 and the total death toll to 396.

The figures are provided by Public Health England as part of its daily breakdown- however, they could be much higher as they do not include deaths which took place in care homes or within the community.

Across the entirety of the country, 148,337 covid-19 cases have been confirmed and 20,319 people who tested positive for the virus have died.

As the the UK prepares to enter its sixth week of lockdown, ministers have warned it is ‘still too soon’ to start lifting restrictions after the death toll suprassed 20,000.

At the start of lockdown, the Government’s chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance said it would be a “good outcome” if the number of deaths in the UK could be kept below 20,000.
