Boris Johnson update RECAP: Prime Minister warns army could enforce new lockdown rules

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will tonight address the nation in a live televised broadcast just hours after sweeping new coronavirus restrictions were announced by his Government.

In a u-turn from previous Government advice, Brits are now to be told they must work from home ‘if they can’, while pubs will now be required to close at 10pm.

The new restrictions are in response to concerns that the number of cases are rising too quickly to be controlled by ‘local lockdowns’.

No fewer than 4,926 new positive coronavirus cases were confirmed across the UK on Tuesday, as well as 37 deaths.

In Sheffield, which remains an ‘area of concern’ on the Government’s coronavirus watchlist, there were 47 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to September 18.
