The 14 South Yorkshire postcodes that have become new coronavirus hotspots this week

Latest data released by the gvernment shows the areas in South Yorskshire where new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the seven days up to September 2.

Most of the areas with five or more new cases confirmed were in Sheffield, where the infection rate for the week up to September 1 has been recorded at 23.6 per 100,000 of the population.

This is a significant increase from the week before, where it was 11.1.

Parts of Barnsley and Rotherham have also seen an increase in the number of new cases confirmed.

Sheffield’s director of publis health has warned people that this recent increase could be an indicator or a second ‘take-off’ of the virus in the area.
