Coronavirus in Sheffield: Latest cancelled events and closed businesses over Covid-19

A number of venues in Sheffield continue to close and more events are being cancelled due to coronavirus fears.

Yesterday, the Sheffield Half Marathon was cancelled and a number of venues across the city were closed in a bid to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Sheffield City Trust closed all of its sports and leisure facilities including Concord Sports Centre, the English Institute of Sport Sheffield, Heeley Swimming Pool, Hillsborough Leisure Centre, Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Springs Leisure Centre, Westfield Sports Centre, iceSheffield, Beauchief Golf Club, Birley Wood Golf Club, Tinsley Park Golf Club, Tapton Park Golf Club and Sinfin Golf Club.

The Royal Horticultural Society announced that it has cancelled the major Chatsworth Flower Show amid the fight against coronavirus.

Cinemas and theatres also announced closures yesterday, with chains including Cineworld and Odeon affected.

Today, the Parkrun organisation announced a cancellation of all its events with immediate effect until at least the end of March.

The closures are all a result of the government’s call for social distancing in the fight against the spread of Covid-19, which has already claimed over 71 lives in the UK.

Glastonbury Festival has been cancelled this year, organisers announced today.

Tickets will roll over to next year’s event.

Graves Park animal farm in Sheffield has also closed until further notice.

And popular restaurant So Famous on Glossop Road, Sheffield, has decided to temporarily close.

It has also been announced today that the Catholic Church will not hold mass gatherings for acts of worship from Friday March 20.
