Coronavirus: Sheffield death toll rises as 20 more die in South Yorkshire

A further 20 patients have died in South Yorkshire hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus, the latest NHS figures have confirmed.

Three more people have died in Sheffield’s hospitals, according to the most recent data, bringing the total Covid-19 related fatalities in the city to 523.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, there were six more fatalities in Doncaster, where the death toll now stands at 483.

In Rotherham there were more deaths, taking the total to 374 and in Barnsley there have now been 347 deaths, after three more were recorded.

Nationwide, a further 314 people who tested positive for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 44,126.

Patients were aged between 38 and 102 years old. All except 11, aged 63 to 93 years old, had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from November 7 to December 11 with the majority being on or after December 9.
