Coronavirus: O2 Academy Sheffield gives Blossoms and Bongo’s Bingo update as UK cases hit 456

The music venue say they are closely monitoring official guidance and working with event organisers to keep concert-goers safe.

O2 Academy Sheffield have announced they will not be cancelling scheduled events in the wake of growing concerns over coronavirus.

The popular city-centre venue issued a message to customers on their website, informing them that all up-coming shows will be going ahead.

Indie-rock band, Blossoms are set to play a sold-out show at the 02 Academy tonight.

The venue is also scheduled to host Jake Bugg's on Friday and the popular Bongo's Bingo on Saturday.

In a statement, organisers said: "At this time, all shows and events are going ahead as planned.

"Please be assured that the safety and health of all staff and visitors, is our main priority and we are implementing recommendations and instructions appropriate.

"We are closely monitoring official guidance from the World Health Organisation, Public Health England, Public Health Scotland, UK Government and local health authorities and are working with event promoters and organisers as information evolves."

The announcement came after the number of positive coronavirus cases in the UK increased to 456 and a sixth person has died.

Public Health England are advising the public to wash their hands more often than usual and for at least 20 seconds to protect themselves from the virus.
