Coronavirus: 15 more patients die across Sheffield and South Yorkshire

Covid-19 has claimed the lives of 15 more people across South Yorkshire, the latest NHS figures have revealed.

Five further patients being treated for the deadly bug have passed away in Sheffield hospitals, according to the most recent data released today (January 8), bringing the total coronavirus-related fatalities across the city to 636.

In Doncaster there were also five additional deaths, bringing the death tally to 603, and in Rotherham there have now been 448 deaths after two more were recorded.

There were three further deaths in Barnsley, where the death toll stands at 454.

Nationwide a further 715 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 54,445.

Patients were aged between 30 and 101 years old, NHS England said. All except 23, aged 45 to 99 years old, had underlying health conditions.

The deaths took place from December 15 to January 7 with the majority being on or after January 5.
