The outbreak was confirmed in letters to parents of pupils at Birley Spa Primary Academy, seen by the Star.

According to the letter, a parent of a Year 4 child tested positive last week and went into isolation with their family- but the Year 4 bubble still continued to come into school.

It comes after the Birley Secondary Academy announced a confirmed positive case on Thursday- it was not confirmed whether a student, staff member or parent had tested positive.

In the letter headteacher Louise Pink assured parents that Public Health England had been consulted and ‘all appropriate steps’ were being taken in light of the positive cases.

The Star has contacted the Birley Spa Primary Academy for comment.
