Goals either side of the break from Jordan Rhodes and Adam Reach secured all three points for Neil Thompson’s side to make it five wins on the trot at S6 – the Owls’ best sequence of results on home soil since 2011.

But more importantly, the win lifts Wednesday up to 21st place and above Derby County on goal difference as the battle to avoid the drop to League One intensifies.

On Twitter, our Owls correspondent Joe Crann wrote: "I think anybody questioning the commitment of these #SWFC players has been silenced tonight. Brilliant work rate, impressive desire in tough conditions. Game over, and the Owls are out of the Championship relegation zone.”

And Wednesdayites were also full of praise for Thompson’s men.

Here’s a snapshot of what some have been saying, also on Twitter, following tonight’s victory.

@Jordanswfcno1 Only 17 points off play-offs.

@richiecotton5 All of a sudden, the Wednesday have two strikers that the opposition need to worry about. If Paterson doesn't get you , Rhodes will. Long may it continue.

@Chris_B_SWFC If someone told me a few months ago we’d win five on the bounce at home, I’d have had them sectioned.

@mullen_denise Well done Wednesday. A good response to Saturday's performance and result.

@Gothard_1986 Surely Sam Hutchinson has answered his critics now, myself included to a extent. Absolutely outstanding today.

@owls_4life Don't get carried away...it was an important win but nothing more. #swfc have some very tough games to come.

@baowl The fortress!

@MHackleton Hutch should have that armband.

@sam31405869 Great result. Midfield looked more balanced. Same team for Saturday.

@ASWoodruff The powers that be at Wednesday really need to sort a deal out for Liam Shaw. He’s a real talent, one of our own and is the future of the club.

@sheffjonno23 Give him the job.

@ewanarm Much better performance. Thought Reach and Harris were fantastic tonight. Rhodes and Paterson combined well up front. Great defensive performance too.

@Maplo16 Rhodes with one of his best performances in a Wednesday shirt and any arguments that Hutchinson has been our best player since re-signing?

@harrietglaves1 Brilliant all round performance from the boys tonight.

@scottcain13 Give NT the job.

@SWFCSteveBrown Best Harris has played for me that, had their lad spinning. Would like to see more of the same against Swansea.

@AdamReachisGOAT Adam Reach and Kadeem Harris tonight. What happens when you play players in their correct position.
