Five more patients with Covid-19 die in Sheffield and South Yorkshire hospitals

Hospitals in and around Sheffield recorded three further deaths of patients who had tested positive for coronavirus according to the latest daily statistics from NHS England out this afternoon (February 26), taking the total deaths to 884.

A further two people died in Barnsley hospitals taking the total there to 593.

The Government said a further 345 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Friday, bringing the UK total to 122,415

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 142,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Friday, there had been a further 8,523 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.
