Firefighters search burning building in Sheffield for more casualties

Firefighters are searching a burning building to check for casualties after a blaze broke out in a Sheffield shop this morning.

Crews were alerted to the blaze in Milan’s pizza takeaway on Chesterfield Road, Heeley, at around 10.30am and found the shop and flats above well alight.

Smoke billowed across the city as crews doused the flames with water.

Seven fire engines were deployed to the scene as well as a turntable ladder to drench the flames from a height.

Paramedics and police officers also raced to the scene and an air ambulance was scrambled.

One casualty was ‘brought out’ of the burning building and taken to hospital.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "Seven fire engines and a turntable ladder are responding to a serious fire involving premises on Chesterfield Road in Sheffield.

“One casualty has been brought out of the premises and has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

“Fire crews are searching the premises for further casualties.”
