Euro 2020 dream still hasn't died for Scotland's Sheffield Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan

The Scots will be featuring in their first major international tournament since 1998 when the European Championships kicks off this summer and there’s a strong possibilty that Owls pair Callum Paterson and Liam Palmer will be in that squad.

The last of Bannan’s 27 caps came in a World Cup qualifier against Slovenia in October 2017 and since then, though there have been some call-ups into the squad, the 31-year-old has been on the periphery of the international set-up, still-proudly watching on as his Wednesday team mates celebrated qualification by beating Serbia on penalties late last year.

However, while admitting that his full focus is on ensuring Sheffield Wednesday pull away from a relegation battle, the Owls skipper maintains that he remains ever available should his country come calling again.

"I’ve never retired, and I’ll never retire until I feel like I have to,” he said. “But my main aim is to win games for Sheffield Wednesday, and whatever comes on the back of that so be it.

Bannan, who will be back to Championship action on Wednesday night against Coventry City after a break for the FA Cup tie with Everton, added: "I would love to play for Scotland if given the chance again, but I’m just focusing on my club football. I’m enjoying my football at the minute, and wherever that takes me we’ll see.”
