The Modern Milkman has helped return traditional milkmen to the nation's front doors during the coronavirus lockdown – and now the rapidly expanding firm is moving into Doncaster.

The firm offers plastic-free doorstep deliveries and allows customers to order online or using an app.

"David Attenborough inspired us to set up The Modern Milkman. We knew there was too much plastic in our everyday groceries and we wanted to do something about it.

"Our neighbours were crying out for a solution too. So we bought our local milk round and the rest is history.”

All the firm’s milk and juice bottles are returned and reused and as well as milk, the firm also offers sweet treats, cereals, butter, eggs, coffee, cream, soft drinks and vegetable boxes.

Set up in Burnley by Simon Mellin, the firm has rapidly expanded during the coronavirus pandemic, with people choosing to get groceries home delivered during lockdown.

Back in the 1970s and 1980s, battery powered milk floats, run by firms such as Co-op and Northern Dairies, were a familiar sight on the streets of Doncaster, with milkmen clinking their way up and down people’s paths with deliveries.

However, in recent years, traditional rounds have died off with people getting their milk from supermarkets.
