Wybourn Community Primary: Photos from Sheffield school children's trip to see penpals in sunny Spain

Dozens of children from a Sheffield primary school flew to Spain to meet their penpals.

For the last seven years, Wybourn Community Primary School has had a link with Colegio Puente III, a school in Spain.

Staff across the school have visited numerous times as part of an Erasmus project - and this year 43 children from Y5 and Y6 went on a residential to meet their Spanish pals.

Prior to the trip, children wrote letters to pen pals and took part in Zoom calls to meet one another.

The school secured funding through the Turing Scheme and the trip took place over five days in late May.

Children and staff stayed in the old medieval town of Santillana Del Mar and had a busy schedule.

Activities included visiting their link school and meeting the mayor, a coastal walk to a lighthouse in Santander, a cable car into the mountains, visiting the town Potes, exploring a typical Spanish Market, a boat trip from Santander to Somo, time on the beach, and beautiful, scenic walks around Santillana Del Mar in the evenings.

Year 5 class teacher Miss Sarah Firth wrote: “The children were excellent ambassadors for the school, demonstrating the school values - we are a family, we care, we keep everyone safe, we have fun and we achieve.

“The staff are extremely proud of them all for their achievements - for many it was their first time abroad.  It was an incredible opportunity for the children and they made memories which will last a life time.”

Miss Firth said staff took “thousands” of photographs from the trip - here are just 16 shared with The Star.
