This is how many children have been given the school of their choice in Sheffield

The vast majority of Sheffield school children will be going to the primary school of their choice at the start of the new term in September 2020.

More than 92 per % of children in Sheffield have been allocated a place at their preferred primary school. exceeding last years total of 91% of allocations. 98% of pupils were allocated one of their 3 preferences, in line with the 98% who were offered one of their preferred schools in 2019. This shows a continuing positive picture for school admissions.

John Bigley Manager of Admissions said:

“We know at this time there is an added pressure on parents and carers who are currently home schooling their children during the Covid-19 outbreak. We are focused on supporting children across the city to succeed and achieve as much as they can during their time being home schooled and once they are back at school, and being able to offer the large majority of children a place at a school of their choice is key to making sure they are given the best opportunity to excel.

“Children who didn’t get a school of their choice have been allocated an alternative school in their catchment area that has places available and is nearest to their home.”

Cabinet Member for Education and Skills at Sheffield City Council, Councillor Abtisam Mohamed said:

“ At this time more than ever we can all appreciate how important our children’s education is and how valued our schools and teaching staff are. We know that this is an uncertain period for parents and children alike, particularly for the very small number of children who may not have received one of their preferred choices.
