These are all the schools in Sheffield being used as polling stations - is yours on the list?

Some of the polling stations will be based in schools. In the past this has meant that schools have been closed for the day.

This year the council has said that it has limited the number of schools that will be used as polling stations, and when it has needed to use a school it has chosen ones with a community building that is separate from the school.

Andrew Cain, Electoral Services Manager said: “We have tried to move away from using schools as polling stations over the past few years to avoid disruption.

“At this election we are using 8 schools with one school hosting two stations. We understand that these are mainly schools that have a community facility attached that can be secured so the school will remain open.

“However, whether a school has to close in full, or part, on polling day is a decision of the Head Teacher, not the Returning Officer.

“We have 246 stations situated in 243 buildings in total, including the area we take in from Barnsley for the Penistone and Stocksbridge constituency, so schools represent a very small proportion of the total number of polling stations.”

The Star has contacted these schools and they have said that they will be remaining open on polling day.
