Sheffield City Council’s ‘Solar On Schools 1’ programme expects average savings of around £50,000 per school over 25 years.

The plan to give schools a source of renewable energy will be voted on at a council hearing on September 16.

The installation would be paid through the Sheffield Climate Bond, which saw residents of the city invest in tackling climate change.

Chosen schools would get a lower rate for solar electricity.

Any electricity not used on site would be exported to the national grid.

The 21 earmarked schools are: Athelstan Primary School; Bradway Primary School; Coit Primary School; Deepcar St John’s; Church of England Junior School; Dore Primary School; Ecclesfield Primary School; Halfway Junior School; High Green Primary School; Holt House Infant School; Intake Primary School; King Edward VII School – Lower School; Lydgate Infant School; Marlcliffe Community Primary School; Mossbrook School; Royd Nursery and Infant School; Sheffield Inclusion Centre; Springfield Primary School; The Rowan School; Watercliffe Meadow Community Primary School; Westways Primary School; Woolley Wood School.
