Every parent wants their little one to go to the best school they can. So when they pick their top three preferences for the new academic year, it can make finding out on March 1 a momentous day.
However, not everyone gets into their first choice - the very best schools can turn away nearly as many students as they have places to offer, they are that in demand.
Below, we've listed which Sheffield secondary schools were the most 'oversubscribed' for September 2023, meaning they were the hardest to get into for a place in Y7.
5. Forge Valley School - 31 per cent oversubscribed
Forge Valley School was the fifth most oversubscribed secondary school in Sheffield for 2023 after turning away 83 students to fill its 260 available spaces. The school's Progress 8 scores were in-line with much of England, and was rated with an 'Average' score of -0.12.
Silverdale School was the sixth most oversubscribed school in Sheffield for 2023, turning away 70 students to fill its 240 available spaces. The school recently cut the ribbon on a new three-storey classroom block to help accommodate up to 300 more pupils in the years to come.
7. Oasis Academy Don Valley - 26 per cent oversubscribed
Oasis Academy Don Valley was the seventh most oversubscribed school in Sheffield for 2023, turning away 42 pupils to fill its 160 available spaces. The school's Progress 8 scores were also in line with much of England with an 'Average' rating of -0.13.
8. High Storrs School - 23 per cent oversubscribed
High Storrs School is the second best performing school in Sheffield - with 46 per cent of all its grades coming in at a 7, 8, or 9 - while only being the eighth most over subscribed, turning away 57 pupils to fill its 244 spaces.
