On Friday, around 15 children were taken out of school at Ecclesall Primary on High Storrs Road after a Covid-19 case was discovered in the after school club.

Then yesterday, the whole of Year 1 – around 90 pupils – were sent home when a second test came back positive, meaning more than 100 children at the school will have been asked to self-isolate in just a few days.

“We have followed the national guidance and have identified that your child has been in close contact with the two individuals who has had a positive test result for coronavirus (COVID-19).

"In line with the national guidance, your child must stay at home and self-isolates until the end of Monday 22nd March.

“If your child is well at the end of the 10 day period of self-isolation, then they can return to their usual activities and attend school from Tuesday 23rd March 2021.”

After a positive test, the rules state that the child or adult who has tested positive must self-isolate for 10 days, as must their household and any close contacts they have had while at school.

Many schools have created ‘bubbles’ of children in classes or year groups to limit the number of pupils who have to isolate in case of a positive test.
