The children, who are all in Year 1 at Rainbow Forge Academy in Hackenthorpe, shared their take on the toilet roll challenge which makes light of the national shortage in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The video is accompanied by the track Reach - an uplifting song by S Club 7 which tells a powerful message that if you follow your dreams, and ‘reach for the stars’, you can fulfil your goals.

It was the brainchild of Liz Bradfield whose six-year-old daughter, Evie, is in the Year 1 class and is missing her teachers and friends during lockdown.

Liz said: “The teachers have been really good setting us work and when we’ve felt overwhelmed they’ve been really good and talked to all the parents. I wanted the video to be a keepsake for everyone for when they’re older too.

“The teachers have seen the video and they said they were happy crying, it really made them feel happy to see the children again.

“We’ve also set up a pen pal system and the children send each other pictures or a card they’ve written every week.”

To make the video, parents filmed their own children catching a toilet roll and throwing it out of view.

But when Liz edited the clips together, it appears o show the children having a game of catch with the loo roll - with each doing their own thing, such as a dance, to make it personal and fun.

It comes after teachers at Rainbow Forge Academy created their own ‘toilet roll challenge’ video to let pupils know they were thinking of them.

In response to the children, the Year 1 teaching team said: “Thank you so much for sending us that amazing video doing the loo roll challenge. It means so much to us all and we miss you all so much.
