Mylnhurst Preparatory School and Nursery, in Ecclesall, was named as one of the highest performing independent schools in the country in The Sunday Times 'Parent Power' Schools Guide published on Sunday, November 22.

This year’s guide is based on 2019 Sats results and sees schools ranked by the aggregated scaled scores achieved by children in reading, grammar and maths.

It features the top 100 preparatory schools from across England, with Mylnhurst ranking 38th and making an appearance on the list for the second year running.

Hannah Cunningham, who joined the school as headmistress in September, said: “For me personally it is an amazing reminder of what a special school I have joined. But, certainly for the school itself and given the year that everyone has had, it is great to be able to celebrate that work that has gone on and a bit of recognition for the outstanding work that continues to go on here.

"It is a lovely way of celebrating in what has been quite a challenging term for all of us.”

Mylnhurst School was founded in 1993 and although it has a Catholic foundation, it is welcoming of all faiths.

Mrs Cunningham said the Parent Power ranking is a recognition of the dedication and hard work of staff, students and the wider community.

She added: “Everyone at the school will talk about the Milnhurst family and from the moment I joined the school that has been something that I’ve been made to feel very much a part of from day one.

"It’s gorgeous – it’s a one form entry school and we know all the parents and all of the children so well. That for me is something that has stood out as someone who is new to the community. They’ve welcomed me with open arms and very much deserve this accolade for the work that has gone on.

"We shared the news on our social media and all the parents shared it among their friends and were commenting on how lovely it is for Mylnhurst. They’re absolutely thrilled.”
