Harry, who started at the Mount’s preparatory school Barlborough Hall, got triple A*s in his A-levels in maths, further maths and physics. He will study physics at Keble College, Oxford, after the summer break.

He said: “These results are exactly what I was hoping for but my mum doesn’t know yet so I’ve got to give her a ring and let her know – she will be thrilled.

“I’m very much looking forward to starting my degree and I’m thinking about possibly going on to work in the nuclear power industry after university.”

Will Thompson, 18, who joined the Mount from Mylnhurst in Sheffield when he was 11, got two A*s in history and French, and an A in English. He is going to the University of Durham to read languages.

“I’m absolutely over the moon and I’m hoping to celebrate with friends this evening,” he said.

This year’s head girl Izzie Coakley, 18, got one A* and two As in chemistry, biology and PE.

She said: “It’s a huge relief to get my results.

"I am going to study pharmaceuticals at Loughborough and after my degree I’m hoping to go on to work within the pharmaceutical industry.”

Shreyan Ghosh, from India, is off to the University of Warwick to study Maths after getting two A*s in maths and further maths, an A in chemistry and a B in physics.

“I’m really looking forward to starting university,” he said.

“I’m keeping my options open at the moment but in my second year I’m hoping to do finance or computing as well.”

Former Barlborough Hall School pupil Marcus Khazenifar, 18, is hoping to study law at Manchester with his two As and a B in politics, psychology and drama.

He said: “I’m pleased with my grades.

“I’m hoping that a degree in law will help me get a placement in Canada where I will be able to do legal work.”

Marcus’ mum Suzanne said she was thrilled with her son’s results.

“He joined Barlborough Hall School when he was tiny and from day one the care he received was phenomenal,” she said.

“Then when he moved up to the Mount the care just continued – it has been an absolutely amazing journey and experience.”

Mount headteacher Anu Monga said: “This has obviously been an extremely difficult year for our students and the results they have got today are down simply to their hard work and tremendous determination.

“We have had a robust remote learning programme in place during the pandemic and these results are also tribute to the staff who have worked so hard to support their students.

“As a college, we do of course have concerns about the clarity of information which has come from central Government and we will be addressing that in due course and fully supporting those pupils who feel they wish to appeal their grades.”
