Five-year-old Sheffield artist scoops prize in national competition

A young Sheffield artist has claimed second prize in a national competition.

Noah Bownes, aged five, has been presented with a £50 Bargain Max gift voucher for his colourful entry ‘Elmer the Elephant’ made out of a milk bottle and tissue paper.

Elmer, he is a multicoloured elephant who lives happily among a grey herd, created by David McKee after he witnessed racist remark aimed at his daughter in the 1960s.

Noah impressed industry judges with his clever use of materials from the home.

The competition,which was open to children aged 0-16 saw over 500 entrants from across the UK.

Noah’s mum Michelle Bownes said: “Noah is super excited to win second place. He draws or paints everyday and really enjoys craft time. Superworm is the story of the week at school, so the next project will be about him. Noah loves superheros so winnings will probably be spent on something superhero themed.”
