Dore Primary School unveiled the new spaces on Friday, February 11.
The school and its children have always had a passion for reading for pleasure, with pupils there reading books both at home and in school – many being avid readers from an early age.

It has been a massive collaborative effort to get the new reading spaces ready for the children’s use: Dore Parent’s Association has run dynamic fundraising activities in aim of generating funds for new books and decorations, parent helpers have re-designed the spaces and taken the lead on the decoration and layout, and the Dore Democrats pupil council has helped name the spaces and recommend new books for the areas.
All the pupils have contributed to the feel of the spaces, making origami book snakes, boats, planes and stars from old library books.
The project has been steered by the English team, making sure all books are relevant and interesting and also reflect diversity of culture, backgrounds and heritages of the children.
The opening on Friday was described as a fantastic celebration of everyone’s efforts and was attended by the crazy wordsmith, The Poetry Bloke, who let the children know just how fun words can be.
