The fun event for a great cause involved every child in Barnby Dun Primary Academy, from the foundation stage to the oldest key stage two pupils.

Pupils, staff and parents were delighted when a grand sum of £585.50 was made by their efforts, through sponsor money for Cancer Research UK.

Teacher and physical education co-ordinator Michelle Connor organised the fundraiser, and made special badges for pupils to stick on to their tee-shirts if they were running for family members or friends with cancer.

Ms Connor said: “All the children thoroughly enjoyed the day and they all loved receiving their race for life medals.

“They all felt it was a good cause to raise money for, especially those who have family members affected by cancer. Well done everybody!”

Youngsters from the foundation stage ran two laps of their playground, while key stage one and key stage two children did two and three laps of their school fields respectively. All runners were able to celebrate making the finish line.
