Derbyshire students unveil new remembrance artwork at Dronfield Station

The exhibition, which was opened recently by town mayor, Coun Lilian Deighton, was organised by the Friends of Dronfield Station, and is housed in the station passenger waiting shelters.

The six poster size artworks have been produced by the After School Arts Club and are all based on the theme of Remembrance and the sacrifice made by servicemen and women in the two world wars and in other conflicts.

Coun Deighton thanked the students for a truly magnificent display at the opening - which was also attended by MP Lee Rowley, and the school’s new headteacher Martin Cooper – and for helping to make Dronfield an attractive place to visit and live in.

She added: “It’s lovely to see the local schools engaged in the important task of promoting remembrance. This station is something the people of Dronfield should be proud of, and especially its efforts to involve the local community.”

Headteacher Mr Rowley added: “The students have produced a fantastic show which demonstrates a great depth of talent in the school, as well as a lot of hard work.”

This latest exhibition is part of a rolling exhibition designed to showcase the work of budding artists from schools in and around Dronfield since 2013.
