Coronavirus in Sheffield: Decision on school closures in England ‘imminent’

A number of schools in and around Sheffield have announced school closures as concerns over the spread of coronavirus grow.

With 1,950 confirmed cases as of yesterday, schools are closing for the protection of staff and pupils.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said today: “The House should expect further decisions to be taken imminently on schools and how to make sure we square the circle both of making sure we stop the spread of the disease but also making sure we relieve, as much as we can, pressure on our NHS.”

SHEFFIELD:

- Meadowhead School – closed to Year 8, 9 and 10.

It remains open today for Year 7, 11, 12 and 13 students alongside children of ‘keyworkers’ in all year groups needed for the national effort to fight the spread of Covid-19, including those who work in the NHS, emergency services, schools, the care sector and social care.

- King Ecgbert School – closed to Year 8 and 9 students.

Children of those who work in the NHS, social care or emergency services can attend.

- Newfield School – closed to Years 8 and 9.

Meadowhead School

- Ecclesfield School – closed to Years 8, 9 and 10.

Children with parents in any of the emergency services or public service sectors can attend.

- Sheffield College – all students and staff are expected to work and study from home by Friday at the latest

- Westfield School – closed to Year 8 and 9.

Schools in and around Sheffield are closing due to coronavirus

Arrangements have been made for children who receive free school meals.

Hinde House School – closed to Year 9 and 10.

Children who receive free meals can attend between 10.30am and 11.30am to collect a ‘grab bag’.

ROTHERHAM:

- Wales High School – closed to Years 7 and 8.

- Brinsworth Academy – closed to Year 8, 9 and 10.

DERBYSHIRE:

- Eckington School – closed to Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12.

- Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School – closed but pupils can attend between 10am and noon today to collect belongings.
