As most pupils return to the classroom this week for the first time since March, public health advice in the city is that children should wear face coverings in communal spaces and on public transport as they travel to and from school.

King Ecgbert School in Dore posted a reminder on Twitter last night for parents and carers of pupils returning today.

The school said: “Public Health Sheffield now state that secondary school aged children must wear face coverings when on corridors and indoor communal spaces, including buses. Not in class, outdoors, or whilst eating.

“Please ensure students come to school with an appropriate face covering.”

Aston Academy contacted parents this week to advise that face coverings must be worn in all indoor communal areas other than classrooms.

Pupils can take their own face coverings, as long as they are plain, but they will also each be provided with three re-usable masks.

Sheffield City Council has revealed that there are a number of measures in place to keep children safe, including staggered start and finish times to help with the flow of pupils.

Children will also be expected to washing their hands more regularly and social distance.

Parents have been reminded that there will be sanctions, including fines, for non-attendance or term time leave and schools will be recording attendance.
