He said: “I am very sorry for any inconvenience caused but the safety and well-being of our pupils and staff has to be our priority.

“Over the weekend one of our teachers became unwell with COVID symptoms and had a test. On Sunday evening the test result came back positive. Another member of staff developed symptoms on Sunday and is awaiting a test.

“In line with the Department for Education guidance, as the teacher with a positive test result had been in school prior to displaying symptoms, we took the precaution to inform parents/carers and staff, who had been in contact with the teacher, to selfisolate for 14 days.

“As part of the school’s procedures we have been in contact with the Local Authority and the Health Protection Team who are part of Public Health. They have investigated the time scales of the infection and possible contacts.

“They are confident that sufficient time has passed between the teacher’s last contact with school and the start of symptoms, to avoid the need for 14 days of isolation. Their recommendation is for school to be closed this week to enable a thorough deep clean of all areas. This will also enable us to receive the results from the test of our other member of staff and observe if anyone else displays symptoms.”

“By following these procedures we hope that parents and carers will continue to have confidence that we are trying to keep our school as safe as possible. Members of the Senior Leadership Team will inspect school on Friday and we aim to welcome the children of key workers and vulnerable pupils and the Year 6 pupils back to school next Monday, 22nd June. Year 1 pupils will now return from Monday 29th June 2020.”
