Well that was a fast six weeks - the summer holidays are nearly over and Sheffield’s schoolchildren go back to class next week.
Some little ones will be buzzing with excitement for the first days of term starting on Tuesday, September 1.
Of course, for some it will not be a return to class but their very first day of school ever in Reception and Year 1 - it’s the older children who often aren’t as enthusiastic about digging out their backpacks again!
Earlier this year, the best-performing primary schools in Sheffield, where children get top-of-the-class grades, were revealed by the Department for Education.
But the result most households look at is how pupils met the DfE’s 'scaled expected standard', essentially meaning whether they scored at least half marks in reading, writing and maths - as well as the ‘higher standard’, for pupils scoring top marks in all three.
They show that Totley Primary School was the top-performing primary in Sheffield at the end of the 2025 academic year.
Some 92 per cent of students met the standard, and one in three pupils scored the higher standard.
