Driver showed 'complete disregard' for others' safety during chase through Sheffield city centre

Police have appealed for witnesses following a chase through Sheffield city centre in which the driver showed ‘complete disregard’ for other people’s safety.

The chase started after the driver of a blue Land Rover Freelander failed to stop for officers, who believed it was being illegally driven without insurance, on City Road in the Manor and Arbourthorne area of the city.

Following a chase through the city centre, which began on Wednesday, December 30, at around 2.35pm, the vehicle was abandoned in the Jericho Street area and it is understood the driver fled the scene on foot.

Sergeant Tom Hollands, from the Sheffield South East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Upon reviewing the footage of this pursuit, it is clear that this individual showed complete disregard for the safety of other road users – including the safety of officers on my team.”

He urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash-cam footage to call police on 101, quoting incident number 101 of December 30, 2020.
