Bosses at Shepherd Place Farm, which is home to a number of farmyard and other animals, say the coronavirus crisis has left them with no other option but to look for new homes as money is running out.

In a desperate plea on Facebook, headed ‘farm in crisis’ a spokesman said: “We are coming to you all asking for help as the farm is struggling.

“We have dealt with multiple lock downs, numerous tier systems and no end of obstacles, but the biggest is still yet to come.

"We have exhausted all other options and are finally running out of money to be able to carry on.

"Our only priority now is the welfare of our animals and we have made the difficult decision to either rehome or foster some of our animals out until we can hopefully open once again.

“We aren’t able to rehome all of our animals as some have specialist medical needs therefore we are asking for any donations no matter how small which will be greatly received and go towards the up keep of our animals including any medical expenses.”

“We understand that this is a very difficult and uncertain time for everyone but any donations will be greatly appreciated. This is not a decision that we have taken likely and wish that this was not the case, but the farm is now at a crisis point.”

The farm, near Graizelound, has become famed locally for its cafe where diners tuck into belly busting breakfasts and has become a popular haunt for people wanting to take on its food challenges.

However, due to the coronavirus restrictions, the cafe and adjoining farm have not been able to open for a number of months, leaving bosses struggling finanically.
