Covid patients at Sheffield hospitals fall to lowest level since early January

The number of people with coronavirus who were being cared for by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals peaked at 417 on January 22 – the highest figure at any point during the pandemic – and still stood at 376 last Tuesday, February 9.

But the trust, which runs the Northern General and Royal Hallamshire hospitals, said today, Monday, February 15, that was now down to 337 – the lowest it has been since January 11.

The latest figures published by the Government show there were still 36 patients in mechanical ventilation beds as of last Tuesday.

The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 recorded across Sheffield has also been falling, with 925 recorded during the week ending on February 9.

That equates to a weekly rate of 158.2 new cases per 100,000 people, which is just below the UK-wide average of 158.7.
