A public meeting will discuss traffic and parking problems around Rother Valley Country Park so residents can discuss what changes they would like to see.

Beighton councillor Chris Rosling-Josephs and Labour candidate Julie Gledhill said they were concerned about the impact excess traffic was causing around the park.

Councillor Rosling-Josephs said: “There’s no quick fix to the issue, for instance more double yellow lines could just lead to more people parking on the Meadowgate estate, which no one wants to see.

“We have tasked Sheffield Council to work up different options and crucially, we want to ensure that the voices of residents are being heard, and to listen to the ideas that they have.”

Resident Ann Woolhouse spoke at a council meeting about the problems.

“I go to Rother Valley on a fairly regular basis and park in the car park at the back entrance which is quite small and in a poor state of disrepair,” she said.

“One of the reasons people park their cars on the road and roundabout is despite the condition, it is often full.”

Coun Mary Lee, Cabinet member for parks, said the council was looking into the problem.

She said: “We have encouraged people to use our parks and green spaces for recreation and that’s been very successful, we want to continue to do that, however we understand the difficulties and the frustrations that people can experience.”

Sheffield South East MP Clive Betts will also attend the online meeting on Thursday at 2pm.
