Third mural by local artist Olivia Tate unveiled at Sheffield Hallam University
This new mural is a colourful tribute to the wide variety of sports, teams, and opportunities available to students, aiming to inspire engagement and reinforce a sense of belonging.
“In my artwork, I wanted to capture a strong sense of inclusion,” Olivia shares. “One way I approached this was by intentionally incorporating less commonly represented medical appliances, such as a diabetic glucose monitor and a hearing aid. These small details may seem subtle, but they carry a powerful message—they reflect the diversity of individuals who make up the sporting community. It’s these little things that matter and help spread a wider emotion of belonging, acceptance, and visibility for everyone, no matter their background or needs.”

“I wanted this mural to grab attention and reflect the inclusive spirit of Team Hallam,” Olivia explains. “It’s about inspiring students to get involved and showing that there’s a place for everyone in this community, regardless of ability or background. Sometimes it’s the smallest details that have the biggest impact.”
The mural is prominently displayed in two high-traffic areas: the Pearson Building at Collegiate Campus and the Owen Building city gym, where it is already receiving admiration from students, staff, and visitors alike. The work continues Olivia’s mission to use public art as a tool for storytelling, empowerment, and social awareness.
This commission is part of Sheffield Hallam’s ongoing investment in celebrating creativity and building a welcoming, inclusive campus culture through visual art.
