Parkinson’s UK’s Barnsley and District branch has secured more than £14,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund for its carers respite programme, delivering vital support for carers of people with Parkinson’s across Barnsley.
Running for over 23 years, the branch’s project provides respite care in the home for up to 14 carers of people living with Parkinson’s in the borough.
The new funding will help provide four hours per month of professional respite care for each carer, for a 12 month period.
Terry Kendall, Parkinson’s UK’s Barnsley and District Branch chair, said:
“I’m delighted we have secured this funding to continue such essential support for families across Barnsley to manage the demands of Parkinson’s care. We know how important it is that carers have an opportunity to rest, recharge, and focus on themselves, with the confidence their loved one with Parkinson’s is safe and supported at home.”
The Barnsley and District branch of Parkinson’s UKmeets monthly on the third Tuesday, from 2-4pm, at Barnsley Emmanuel Church, Huddersfield Road, S75 1DT, and offers friendship and support locally to people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers.
