Meadowhall partnering with Weston Park Cancer Charity in bid to help those in Sheffield battling the disease

The region’s biggest shopping centre has committed to supporting a local charity through a number of activities across 2026.

Weston Park Cancer Charity has officially been named Meadowhall’s Charity of the Year for 2026.

It comes after ongoing work between the mega mall and local charity, including personal support from centre director Darren Pearce, who volunteers as a member of the charity’s ‘see it, treat it’ appeal board.

The appeal aims to raise £1.85m to bring a revolutionary MRI Simulator machine to Weston Park Cancer Centre, which would allow for more precise and targeted treatments that could minimise the risk of treatment-related side effects.

Meanwhile the shopping centre as a whole has function as a pick-up stop for the free transport service for patients undergoing treatment and a regular location for the Big Purple Bus, which offers one-to-one support for anyone affected by cancer.

This latest announcement means that dedicated activities throughout 2026 will be organised to support the life-changing charity.

Darren Pearce, centre director at Meadowhall said: “It’s a privilege to announce Weston Park Cancer Charity as our charity partner for 2026.

“Many of our staff members have had loved ones cared for at Weston Park Cancer Centre, so the charity is very close to our hearts.

“We’re excited to announce our calendar of fundraising events in due course and can’t wait to make a difference for this brilliant cause throughout the year.”

Shoppers will also be able to support the charity’s vital work via the ‘Giving Box’ located on the Upper Level within Meadowhall.

Further details about future activities are set to be announced.

Bekah Anstey, senior corporate partnership manager from Weston Park Cancer Charity, said: “We’re over the moon to have been chosen as Meadowhall’s Charity of the Year.

“Meadowhall has played a key role in our free transport service and our Big Purple Bus, and we’re incredibly grateful for this further show of support.

“Thank you so much for helping us to care for local people and families facing cancer.”
