Hundreds gather for hands around a historic hall in Sheffield

More than 300 people attended the community picnic in Meersbrook Park to celebrate the reopening of the historic Meersbrook Hall, and just over £2,000 pounds was raised towards the upkeep of the building.

The crowd enjoyed live music from Carrfield Community Choir, local singer songwriter Julian Jones, the Woodseats Musical Theatre and the Liam Walker Band.
"Hundreds of people held a ‘Hands Around the Hall' in a symbolic show of community unity and support for bringing the building back into productive use for the community", said Mark Cordle, chairman of the Friends of Meersbrook Hall.

"Thanks so much to Will Roberts who provided a drone to capture this magic moment and all our local businesses in Meersbrook who donated raffle prizes for us," he said.
"We couldn’t have wished for better weather and the support from everyone locally was absolutely wonderful.
"I’d like to thank all the musicians and people who gave their time for free along with all our volunteers and everyone for attending what was a brilliant event and the consensus was that we should do it again next year.
"We’re already planning a Christmas Craft Fair in the hall, so get in touch if you want to be part of that."

The friends group has also been awarded £20,000 by Sheffield City Council Gleadless Valley Ward Councillors to help with the first year’s running costs of the building.
The group is inviting organisations, social enterprises and local businesses to contact the Friends if they are interested in using the hall for any kind of community or voluntary activity or if they would like to discuss setting up a business in the Hall itself.
