The Millers are keen on adding an attacking midfielder to their ranks ahead of Monday's 11pm deadline and have a target in mind.

Warne is seeking permission to speak to the player from his manager and hopes to be able to persuade his man to come to the New York Stadium for the remainder of the season.

“I will speak to the manager again and ask for permission to speak to the player,” Warne said.

“And then the deal is done, once they have met me the dream is over.

“I will have to have a shave, fake tan and do my teeth and FaceTime and hopefully get him to come.

“You can see that all of our players available were there. We definitely need some help in the middle of the part, the chairman is there to support that and I have just got the club to release their player.

“I would like two but I would also like my hair to grow back. One signing is realistic, two is the dream.”

The Millers' January exodus continued on Saturday as Curtis Tilt and Adam Thompson left the club.

Tilt rejoined League One outfit Wigan on loan for the rest of the season after Warne told him that he would be fifth choice central defender.

The former Blackpool man spent the first half of the campaign at the DW Stadium after undergoing hip surgery during the first coronavirus lockdown.

Thompson leaves the club permanently after he joined Leyton Orient.

The defender had not been part of Warne's plans following the club's promotion to the Championship.

Warne expects Jamie Proctor to go out on loan on deadline day.

The Millers saw a three-game unbeaten run ended when they went down 3-1 to promotion hopefuls Swansea.

Warne had no complaints.

He said: “You go into these games as a massive underdog and you just hope their best players don't turn up. That's the honest truth, if Swansea play at their absolute best and we play at our absolute best, nine times out of 10 they win.”

“That is the reality of football and I understand that but if you can pick up points in your "free hits" then you are cruising.

“We are on the back of a good run and I don't leave with any doubts on my players, my thoughts are probably reinforced.

“At 2-1 I thought the game could have gone anyway but unfortunately it didn't go the way I wanted it to. But there are no complaints with the players, I thought they were great.”
