Rhodes, who has struggled for game time at Hillsborough, will see his current deal expire at the end of the season, and Cardiff were believed to have shown an interest in bringing him in to bolster Mick McCarthy’s side on deadline day.

Now though, with just a few hours left of the window, WalesOnline have stated that the 30-year-old won’t be heading to Cardiff ‘despite the Bluebirds having harboured an interest’.

They also said, “It is understood the club had explored a number of options in recent days in order to get a deal done, but none were deemed workable by all parties.”

Meanwhile, Wednesday’s Championship relegation rivals, Derby County, have raided Wayne Rooney’s former club and brought in Manchester United youngster Teden Mengi on loan until the end of the season.

The move was confirmed this afternoon as the 18-year-old looks to get some more regular game time under his belt, with the defender hoping to help the Rams in their attempts to stay in the division.

It remains to be seen at this stage what business the Owls will get done – incomings and outgoings – however it is thought that Rochdale are eager to sign young Conor Grant on a permanent basis before the window closes at 11pm this evening, while Alex Hunt has been linked with a loan move away from S6.
