Window display competition spreads festive cheer in Sheffield village

Eckington & District Rotary Club have helped to brighten up the shops in Mosborough Village through a best Christmas window display competition.
Philip Staton, President Elect of the Eckington and District Rotary Club said he hoped the project would help to “create community spirit and encourage local shopping.”

Hide Ad“It’s the first year in Mosborough. We've had 11 shops, a brilliant response,” added Mr Staton.
The window displays were judged at a Rotary meeting via Zoom with Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Tony Downing.
The top three winners were presented with a certificate from The Lord Mayor.
First place went to Two Ways to Tan, which is owned by Sharron Naseby.

Hide AdShe said: “To be honest I was quite surprised ,but it’s such a lovely certificate, we've been awarded.
“It’s a community thing ,we did it for the community. Hopefully it cheers everyone up in these uncertain times and brings a bit of cheer,just reminding everyone what Christmas is about really.
“Christmas retail has been horrendous this year. So we thought we’d give a bit back. Everyone’s been shopping local as well.
"Everyone’s given back to us, so we wanted to give back to them.”

Hide AdSecond place went to LA Glam, owned by sisters Andrea Radley and Lisa Searstone.
“We wanted customers to feel happy when they came back after lock down.” said Andrea
Third place went to S20 Cafe, and owner Marianne Whitehead said: “I think it’s brilliant, because I didn’t even know I’d been entered. I think it's absolutely brilliant.
Mayor Downing, who is also a Mosborough councillor, said of the competition: “As Lord Mayor of Sheffield and councillor for Mosborough Ward.

Hide AdWhen The Rotary Club of Eckington and district got in touch with me and suggested that we do a Christmas display window competition, I was more than happy to get involved.
“I know the shop owners and they’re all very nice people, and they all made a fantastic effort.
“Because of Covid things aren’t feeling as Christmassy as you would like , but this perhaps lifted spirits a little bit, and it’s good for shopkeepers to brighten up their windows for the people in the area.”
