The Sainsbury’s Local behind the distinctive facade of the old Locarno nightclub building on London Road closed last month.

The Weston Street branch in Netherthorpe, opposite Weston Park, was the other.

The good news for shoppers is that both are expected to reopen soon as Budgens stores.

Samy said in October that it planned to convert all eight of the Sainsbury’s branches it snapped up into Budgens stores, which would have ‘both the freedom and ability to recognise and tailor services to their communities’ needs’.

The Star has contacted Samy about its latest plans for the London Road and Weston Street stores, but it has yet to respond.
