Sheffield hosts thousands of business travellers every year – but most of them have little time to properly experience the city.

But a new video guide has been created to help visiting workers see the best of the city centre in little more than half an hour.

New research commissioned by Jurys Inn Hotel Group has found business travellers only get an average of 36 minutes’ free time when working in cities away from their normal offices.

It has created a new guide for workers so they can enjoy whistle-stop tours of Sheffield when they are here.

The 36 Minute City Guide includes recommendations from hotel staff for business travellers looking to make the most of their brief periods of free time when in Sheffield.

It lists Chapel Walk as the ideal place to find a gift for loved ones thanks to its ‘mixture of big brands and boutique independent stores’.

The guide says: “The arcade carries a variety of shopping must-haves from the homewares, jewellery and fashion worlds.”

Also on the recommended list is the ‘world famous’ Crucible, home to Snooker World Championship, as well as the Millennium Gallery and Winter Garden.

The video says the Winter Garden’s 2,500 plants have helped create a ‘stunning garden world in the heart of the city’. Business travellers are also advised to pay a visit to Marmadukes Cafe Deli on Norfolk Row, which is praised for its use of locally sourced produce.

Tim Nye, who owns Marmadukes with wife Clare, said he was delighted the independent cafe has been included in the guide.

The cafe was opened by the couple on Norfolk Row two years ago.

Tim said: “We are really proud and it is nice to be featured. It is great.

“The area where we are near the theatres is a lovely place which is why we opened the cafe in the first place. It is such a lovely spot and the street has got its own character.

“We have some people who come in every day and many people I know on first name terms. It is really nice and that is what separates us from the chains.”

The research from Jurys Inn, which involved interviews with more than 2,000 business travellers, found 90 per cent of those questioned wished they knew more about the cities they were working in. It said 22 per cent found it ‘ridiculous’ they do not get to see more when visiting, with 16 per cent of corporate travellers admitting to whiling free time away alone in coffee shops.

“We hope our 36 Minute City guides will let business travellers make the most of their next stay.”
