A loved-up couple are getting ready to jet off on the trip of a lifetime thanks to their 11 per cent bonus from John Lewis.
Andrea and Lee Harper met at the former Cole Brothers store in Sheffield and have been married for three and a half years.
Now Lee, who works in the audio and TV department, and Andrea, in furniture, are planning to pack their bags for a dream family holiday in Florida.
The Stocksbridge couple are among the 93,800 John Lewis workers nationwide sharing a bonus pot of £156.2 million - the equivalent to nearly six weeks’ pay.
The amount is less than last year’s 15 per cent but the Harpers said it was still a big boost for their holiday savings.
Lee, aged 43, said: “We had a bad couple of months with bereavements and my cousin’s dying wish was for his wife to come with us, so she is coming and will swim with the dolphins.
“It’s just something for us all to look forward to.”
The couple will also be joined by Lee’s daughters Siobhan, aged 18, and Rhianne, aged 14, and Andrea’s daughter Sophie, aged 18.
Andrea said: “Our children are growing up and we really want to spend a last family holiday together.
“The bonus gives us a really good opportunity to celebrate and enjoy two weeks in the sun, creating some happy memories for us to look back on.”
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Ben Stubley, who works in the catering department, is looking forward to spending his bonus on visiting his family in Australia in September.
The Lodge Moor man said: “I grew up in Australia and moved here three and a half years ago so it will be nice to have some warm weather and do some fun things with my family.
“I think the bonus a very nice gesture to the staff, it’s a way to celebrate our hard efforts.”
Finally, Rebecca Taylor, in fashion accessories, and Philip Ward, in floor coverings, are both planning separate trips to tour along Route 66. Philip has regularly visited this area of the States since 2005 but for Rebecca it is her first visit, as a treat for her graduation.
John Lewis Sheffield’s managing director James Prince said: “I think 11 per cent is great. The fact that we get a bonus at all is fabulous.
“The bonus is a little bit less than last year - which was 15 per cent - however that reflects the trading performance of our business.
“It’s still a great bonus and partners are still very happy about it.”
